WATCH: Protesters storm House of Assembly to protest against Ambode’s impeachment
Hundreds of protesters have besieged the Lagos State House of Assembly to protest against lawmakers’ plan to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Lawmakers in the state had initiated an impeachment process against the governor whom they accuse of gross misconduct.
Ambode was alleged to be releasing funds without submitting the 2019 budget before the lawmakers. He was given within a week to defend his position or face impeachment.
The protesters who arrived the House of Assembly Wednesday afternoon called on the lawmakers to sheath their swords and allow the governor complete his term.
The men and women, who carried banners with inscriptions of their agitations, said the removal of the governor would disrupt the peaceful conduct of the general elections.
Ambode has not publicly reacted to the lawmakers’ move.
