WATCH: “Only people who can accept the pain of rigging should contest elections” – Oshiomhole goofs
The Chairman of the ruling party, Adams Oshiomhole had a slip of the tongue during an interview where he addressed the outcome of the gubernatorial election in Osun State.
There were reports of irregularities at some polling units in the recently held governorship election rerun in the state that saw APC’s Gboyega Oyetola emerge winner.
Senator Ademola Adeleke has said his mandate was “stolen” and he was going to court.
Oshiomhole, aiming to clarify that politicians have to be graceful in defeat, said they must “accept the pain of rigging”, before he quickly corrected his gaffe.
“I think that for democracy to flourish, only people who can accept the pain of RIGGING (sorry defeat) should participate in an election,” the APC Chairman said.
Election rigging has been prevalent in Nigeria, but citizens had hoped that the invention of the Permanent Voter Card and its success during the 2015 general election would put the ghost to bed.
