WATCH: Lawyers protest Onnoghen’s suspension; another group voice support for Buhari
There is an ongoing protest at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) headquarters in Abuja.
Protesters, including members of the National Interest Defenders and Lawyers in Defense of Democracy, are protesting the removal of Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Some of the placards displayed by the protesters read: “NBA must act now by ordering lawyers to down tool”, “NJC must reconvene now and expel Justice Tanko Mohammed”.
However, in a twist of events, some protesters also arrived the NBA headquarters in Abuja to stage a counter-protest in support of President Buhari.
The group arrived the NBA secretariat shortly after lawyers had assembly to show solidarity with the President.
Onnoghen’s suspension has divided opinions since Buhari made the announcement on Friday.
The Senate will meet to deliberate on the matter on Tuesday (tomorrow).
