Hauwa Liman’s father, Mohammed, has pleaded with her killers to release her corpse – if truly she has been killed – in order to give her a befitting burial according to Islamic rites.

Mohammed, overwhelmed with emotion, said on Tuesday that they never expected she would be killed so soon, after the Boko Haram terrorists faction, ISWAP, demanded for ransom.

The 24-year-old midwife working with the ICRC was killed on Monday after spending seven months in captivity.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has said he called Mohammed Tuesday afternoon, insisting, just like Information Minister Lai Mohammed, that the government did all it could to secure her release.

“It is not the kind of telephone call anyone prays to make. The Federal Govt did everything possible to save Hauwa’s life; it is tragic and regrettable that all our efforts were unsuccessful,” Buhari said.

Buhari said further, that he regretted Hauwa’s commitment to helping victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeastern part of the country ended in such a brutal way.

He appealed to the Red Cross organisation to continue its services in the country, and not give up, despite the unfortunate and painful loss of their staff.

“I am reassuring everyone that the Fed Govt will continue to do all within our power to protect not just humanitarian workers, but also everyone working or living in the North East. I salute our military, who continue to fight and strive hard to permanently neutralize Boko Haram,” the president said.
