Waste takes over community in “highbrow” Allen Avenue, Lagos
One, two, three…by the time you count to 10, some environmental abomination may have overtaken Community Road, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.
The tranquil and serene environment of the community may soon be taken over by waste. If nothing is done to change the current situation, that is.
As at the time of compiling this report, residents and visitors to the area are duly welcomed by a smiling security guard at the gate and heaps of refuse on either sides of the road just after the security point.
This is in sharp contrast to the relative tidiness of the road itself and the neat row of decent houses that adorn the street.
According to a resident, men of the state waste management authority, LAWMA, who usually come by every Monday to pick up the refuse had not been seen so far this week.
He added that some of the refuse had been left to accumulate for weeks even though LAWMA had been to the place in recent weeks.
It is however apparent that the situation can not be left to linger on much longer except, of course, the residents want it that way.
