Visually impaired man, 11-year-old son, drown in flood in Delta

A visually impaired man has reportedly drowned along with his 11-year old son in a flood in Delta State.

Two other persons were also said to have died when a boat they were using to flee drowned in the flood.

The Secretary of the Powerline Community, Emma Ekube told Governor Ifeanyi Okowa during his visit to one of the Internally Displaced Person camps in Ogbe-Afor Primary School, Asaba that two other children of the deceased were lucky to survive the incident.

“A man lost his life there. The boat he was using to come out from his house to escape from the flood capsized. He was trying to come out from the water. His two children who were with him survived. The drowned man was blind and he should be in his sixties. It happened four days ago,” Ekube said.

He also revealed that Ndokwa East, Oshimili South, Burutu, Ughelli South, Patani and Bomadi, which are located along the bank of the River Niger, had been covered with flood, but some of the victims are not ready to leave the place and move to one of the IDP centres in the state.
