US Defence Secretary: Strikes on Iran Won’t Escalate into ‘Endless War’

Speaking at a Pentagon press conference, US Defence Secretary [Patrick Hegseth] said that American military operations in Iran are being carried out with precision and overwhelming force. He stressed that the strikes are carefully targeted and are not intended to trigger a prolonged conflict in the region.

Hegseth addressed reports that four US service members have died during the operations, noting that casualties are an expected risk in any military engagement. “While any loss of life is tragic, these operations are designed to be surgical and controlled,” he said.

The ongoing violence has taken a heavy toll on Iranian civilians. The Iranian Red Crescent reported that at least 555 people have been killed in the US and Israeli strikes since Saturday. State media in Iran highlighted one particularly deadly attack, stating that at least 165 people lost their lives when a school in southern Iran was hit.
