US Assures Nigerians Affected by Visa Glitch: Interviews to Be Rescheduled
Nigerians whose visa applications were disrupted by a recent technical glitch can now breathe a sigh of relief, as the United States Department of State has confirmed that affected interviews will be rescheduled.
Reports surfaced last week that several Nigerian applicants were unable to attend their scheduled visa interviews due to an unexpected system failure, throwing their travel plans into uncertainty. Many expressed frustration over the disruption, fearing delays in their application process.
Addressing the concerns, Jennifer Johnson, Press Officer at the Bureau of Consular Affairs, US Department of State, clarified that the issue stemmed from a partial systems outage but assured applicants that normal consular operations had since resumed.
“Visa applicants whose interviews must be rescheduled due to the outage will be notified,” Johnson told Punch on Monday.
This development comes amid recent changes to the US visa processing system for Nigerians. Last year, the US revised its requirements, making it mandatory for applicants to visit the Lagos consulate twice during the process. According to the US embassy, the policy aims to enhance interview preparedness and minimize delays in processing immigrant visas.
