UK Places Partial Ban On Arms Export To Israel

The United Kingdom (UK) has confirmed the partial ban on the exportation of arms to Israel.

News of this was affirmed by the Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, during a statement to the House of Commons on Monday.

This comes after bodies of some hostages were recovered.

Lammy stated that, 30 out of about 350 arms exports to Israel would now be suspended.

The ban covers components for military jets, helicopters and drones and items which “facilitate ground targeting”, which are intended for the war efforts against Gaza.

Lammy noted that there could be a “serious violation of international humanitarian law” if those UK exports make their way to Israel.

He lamented that the Gaza war by Isreal “continues to lead to immense loss of civilian life, widespread destruction to civilian infrastructure and immense suffering.”

Recently, the Gaza health ministry run by Hamas announced that at least 40,786 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since 7 October.

These figures have, however, been countered by Israel.

Lammy held that Israel could do better to ensure food and necessary medical supplies are not denied civilians in Gaza.

Lammy said that the UK will “continue to support Israel’s right to self-defence,” and that this was, by no means, an embargo on arms.

He ended by explaining that the suspension of these exports was not a decalration of Israel’s innocene or guilt on the matter.
