Two suspected cultists arrested while trying to smuggle slain member for burial in Delta
Two suspected cult members have been caught trying to smuggle a corpse of one of their members to Onitsha in Anambra state.
Police in Delta said they were alerted that the body of a suspected cultist would be smuggled into the state for burial.
According to police spokesman, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, the deceased cultist was killed during a clash with a rival cult group on Thursday.
“Our men swung into action, trailed the suspects to the scene of the crime, recovered the corpse and arrested two suspects who were about to bury the corpse,” Aniamaka said on Friday.
He identified the corpse as Onyeka Enebeli, and said, “he was taken to Water Side and while they were trying to bury the victim secretly, two suspected cult members were apprehended.”
He added that the body had been deposited to the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba for an autopsy test while the investigation was ongoing.
