Trump threatens legal action against Trevor Noah over Epstein comment
U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to take legal action against Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah following a joke the comedian made about him during the 68th Grammy ceremony.
While presenting the award for Song of the Year to Billie Eilish for “Wildflower,” Noah made a quip referencing Trump’s recent interest in acquiring Greenland, an autonomous Arctic territory. He joked that winning a Grammy is something every artist dreams of “almost as much as Trump wants Greenland.”
Noah then took the remark further, adding that Trump “needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton” now that disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein is dead an apparent allusion to Epstein’s private island, which was linked to sex trafficking allegations.
The remarks sparked an angry response from Trump on his Truth Social platform. He first slammed the Grammys as “the worst and virtually unwatchable” before directly attacking Noah.
“I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close to it,” Trump wrote, insisting that he had never previously been accused of visiting the island.
He went on to describe Noah as a “total loser” and threatened to sue him, warning the comedian to “get ready.”
Noah, who announced that this would be his final year hosting the Grammys after six consecutive turns as emcee, has generally avoided heavy political commentary in past ceremonies.
Trump’s reaction comes amid renewed scrutiny over his past social connections to Epstein. The former president had previously moved in similar circles to the financier in Florida and New York, and has resisted the release of related court documents for months.
Last week, more than three million files tied to Epstein were made public, naming a range of prominent figures including Trump, Bill Clinton, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Britain’s Prince Andrew though inclusion in the documents does not necessarily imply wrongdoing.
