Trump Assassination Attempt: Suspect Charged

Suspect Charged in Trump Assassination Attempt

A suspect implicated in the attempted assassination of former US President, Donald Trump, has been charged with federal gun crimes.

The suspect, a certain Ryan Wesley Routh aged 58, was charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number at his initial court appearance on Monday.

This comes after the shooting that occurred at the former president’s his West Palm Beach golf course, which authoities belief was a second attempt on Trump’s life.

Routh was arrested on Sunday is expected to face further charges at a later arraignment.

During his initial hearing, the suspect had a composed demeanour as he answered questions posed by the District Judge, Ryon McCabe, of the Southern District of Florida.

The arrest happened after an agent of the US Secret Service observed the barrel of a rifle pointing out of shrubbery at the Trump International Golf Course.

Rafael Barros of the US Secret Service revealed that the agents went ahead of the President and engaged the suspect who is said to have fled in a vehicle and arrested later on.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw disclosed that a “AK-47-style” rifle equipped with a scope, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera were recovered from the scene of the incident.

The Republican candidate, however, came out of the incident unharmed.

US media findings show the suspect to be a stauch critic of Trump.
