Truck driver killed by F-SARS officer sparks protest in Lagos

Truck drivers in the Mile2 side of Oshodi-Apapa Expressway are outraged over the killing of their colleague, Hassan by a stray bullet from the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) officer.

The incident which occurred when heavily armed F-SARS officers were reportedly raiding the hideouts of suspected drug dealers in the area led to the death of two people in which Hassan was one of them.

“Heavily armed police officers on raids of drug dealers and addicts under the Mile2 bridge reportedly shot one of them but a stray bullet hit the tanker driver who died instantly,” one of the witnesses at the scene revealed.

In response to the heartbreaking event, truck drivers in Mile2 have staged a protest to express their disappointment.

Some commuters are concerned that the protest will worsen traffic situation on the road which is constantly on lock down because of bad roads and indiscriminate parking by truck drivers.

The F-SARS officers have gained notoriety in Nigeria for their excessive use of force which has led to calls to disband that special arm of the police.
