TRAGIC! Mother, 3 children, burn to death in Lagos fire
A sad incident has claimed the lives of a mother and her three children after fire razed the laundry shop in which they slept at the early hours of Thursday.
According to a statement by LASEMA, the fire outbreak occurred at about 2:38am at B23 Ogunleye Street off Adekunle Kuye Street, Kilo Bus Stop, Surulere.
The fire spread to nearby shops, one of which the family of five slept in.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
“The father, identified as Ignacious, sustained severe burns and was taken to LASUTH, while the mother identified as Hope, and their three children: Female – Chukwuka (9yrs), Male – Nonso (7yrs) and Male- Ugochukwu (6yrs) who were said to be residing in the shop used for laundry services were also burnt to death,” the statement read.
Their remains were handed over to the Police at Aguda Police Station.
Lagos State Fire Service prevented the fire from escalating to other nearby buildings.
The General Manager LASEMA, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, said proper investigation would be conducted on the incident.
He, however, advised Lagosians on embracing necessary safety precautions and to also avoid sleeping in shops overnight.
