Tragic! Many dead as gunmen unleash mayhem in banks in Kwara
At least twelve people were reportedly killed in a robbery operation at Owode, Offa, in Kwara state, on Thursday (today).
It was a bloody day for bankers and residents as gunmen unleashed mayhem while robbing five banks in the area.
Among the victims were a bank security personnel, six policemen, bank customers, and residents.
The banks attacked were identified as Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, First Bank, Union Bank and Eco Bank.
The robbers, according to reports, successfully carted away huge amount of money in the operation.
Eyewitnesses said the robbers, numbering about 30, blew up entrances into the banks with dynamite in an operation which lasted for more than one hour.
The robbers reportedly blocked roads, and also gained entrance into Owode Police Station, where four policemen at the division, were killed.
A police officer, who was expected to retire in the next few months, was said to have been shot dead, as well as a pregnant policewoman.
