Tragedy: Man shoots self after shooting wife, child dead
A man in Blantyre city of Malawi shot himself after shooting his wife and step-child dead following a family row, reports say.
The city’s Police spokesperson, Elizabeth Divala, identified the man as Charles Chipanda, 52; his wife, Grace Chipanda, 44; and his step-son, Gift Chipanda, 14.
The three bodies have been recovered from the family’s home where police also found a pistol and a suicide note signed by both the man and the woman, Nyasa Times reports.
Police however believe the woman was forced to sign the suicide note.
“According to the letter, the wife confessed that she was having extra-marital affairs and signed under her confession whereas the man wrote that his wife was having extra-marital affairs and that she was patronising beer halls while he was conducting businesss before endorsing his own signature as well,” Divala said.
A neighbour has described the incident as unbelieveable.
“They were a normal, happy family,” she said..
