Suspected Cable Thief Electrocuted at Jigawa Secretariat
A man yet to be identified lost his life on Wednesday morning after reportedly attempting to steal high-voltage armoured electrical cables at the Jigawa State Secretariat complex in Dutse.
According to a statement released by the Jigawa State Police Command, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. The state’s police spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed that officers were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving a distress call.
Upon arrival, officers from the Dutse Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, found the lifeless body of the man beneath a concrete slab housing armoured electrical cables. Preliminary investigations suggest he was electrocuted while trying to tamper with the cables, which were still connected to a live high-voltage power source.
“The officers discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a slab that contained armoured cables,” Shiisu said in the statement.
The body has since been deposited in the morgue for further examination.
Condemning the act of vandalism, DSP Shiisu warned residents against engaging in dangerous and illegal activities, stressing the fatal risks involved. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
“As the investigation progresses, the command will provide additional updates,” he added.
