Tragedy in Anambra: Kidnapped Lawmaker Justice Azuka Found Dead on Second Niger Bridge
The body of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has been discovered on the Second Niger Bridge days after he was abducted by gunmen on Christmas Eve.
Azuka, a representative of Onitsha North under the Labour Party (LP), was attacked and kidnapped along Ugwunapampa Road in Onitsha while heading home for the holiday celebrations.
In a tragic update on Thursday, Anambra police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the lawmaker’s decomposing remains were found by a joint security team.
According to Ikenga, the joint task force—comprising police and Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) operatives—discovered Azuka’s body during a rescue mission at the bridge.
“In the early hours of today, the joint security team, on a mission to rescue abducted Hon. Azuka, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene,” the police statement read.
Authorities have now intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the crime, vowing to bring them to justice.
Azuka’s political journey was marked by a fierce legal battle. In November 2023, the Court of Appeal upheld his election victory after overturning the initial declaration of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate as the winner.
His tragic death has sent shockwaves through the state, with political leaders and residents calling for swift action to tackle the rising insecurity in the region.
