Traffic offenders will cut grass, sweep roads – LASTMA

Traffic offenders in Lagos will be subjected to community service, LASTMA has said.

17 offenders – 15 men and 2 women – were paraded at the state secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday.

They were tried and found guilty by the Special Offences Court, sitting at Oshodi.

The offenders, whose offences ranged from non-use of seat belts to dropping of passengers at unauthorised places, were told to clear bushes and sweep the premises.

Some offenders were made to cut grass at the state secretariat.

LASEMA spokesperson, Mahmud Hassan, said the offenders would still be sent to the streets to serve their sentences at the “discretion of the officer that is in charge of that department.”

He said the disciplinary measure was to deter other traffic offenders in the state, as they too would face similar action when caught.
