Marine Bridge to Undergo 22-Day Partial Closure from May 18

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has announced a partial traffic diversion on the Marine Bridge as essential maintenance work is set to commence. The repair project, spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Works, will begin on Sunday, May 18, and is expected to last until Sunday, June 8, 2025.

In a statement issued by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, the ministry outlined a two-phase maintenance strategy to minimise disruption to traffic flow on and around the Apapa axis.

“Phase 1 will span from the foot of Marine Bridge (Lawani Oguntayo Road inbound Apapa/Costain), while Phase 2 will cover Ijora Badia and the Lilypond Access Ramp inbound Apapa,” Osiyemi stated.

To ease traffic congestion during the repairs, motorists are advised to adhere to designated alternative routes:

Ijora Olopa to Apapa: Drivers should use the Ijora Causeway access ramp near Omni Retail Company to proceed toward Apapa. Costain to Apapa: Traffic will be diverted into a contraflow lane on the side normally used for inbound Costain. Ijora Olopa to Apapa (June 2–8): Vehicles will again use the Ijora Causeway access ramp by Omni Retail into the Lilypond Access Road to reach Apapa.
