Traders wail as fire razes over 50 shops, destroys goods worth millions in Benue

As Nigerians were celebrating the country’s Independence on October 1st, shop owners and traders at Gboko market, Gboko LGA in Benue, were left to rue their luck as fire razed their stalls.
Over 50 Shops were destroyed by the fire.
An eyewitness, Testimony Ackaudu is quoted by Punch as saying the fire which was caused by an electric spark started around 4 a.m.
Ackaudu also said the youths in the area tried to put out the fire as there was no fire station around the area.
He said, “Attempts by our youths to put out the fire proved abortive, as we could only manage to fetch water from a well.
“It was a bad day for all traders who own shops in the market, as they wept uncontrollably at the sight of their goods being razed by the inferno.”
