Fuel tanker explosion claims driver’s life in Ibadan
A tragic fuel tanker explosion has rocked the city of Ibadan, Oyo State, claiming the life of a driver and leaving one person injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday along the Iwo expressway, creating a scene of devastation and panic.
According to Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the tanker, loaded with premium motor spirit (PMS), lost control and collided with two other trucks before overturning into a nearby pit, where it ignited into a fiery explosion.
“The driver was burnt to death while the motor boy was rescued alive and taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for treatment,” Akinyinka confirmed.
Emergency responders, including Ismail Adeleke, the agency’s director of operations, alongside the police and other security personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and prevent further chaos.
This marks yet another devastating tanker-related accident in Nigeria. Just days earlier, a similar tragedy unfolded in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, where a tanker crash resulted in a catastrophic explosion, claiming the lives of 98 people.
Earlier this month, a separate fuel tanker explosion in Agbor town, Delta State, led to at least two fatalities.
