Tompolo mourns: Father of runaway Nigerian ex-militant “dies in Delta hospital”

Thomas Osen Ekpemukpolo, 84, is dead, reports say.

He was father to former Niger Delta militant Government Ekpemukpolo popularly called “Tompolo”.

The old man is reported to have passed away at Lily Clinic along Deco Road in Warri, Delta State, Wednesday morning.

Tompolo says he will not appear before the EFCC.
Tompolo is wanted by the EFCC.

It’s unclear if the death will make the younger Tompolo, who is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with a N48bn fraud at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), end his public absence.

Tompolo had accused the Nigerian government, particularly the military, of maltreating his father because they wanted him (younger Tompolo) behind bars.

“From the doctor’s report, it will be a thing of miracle if he (Tompolo’s father) survives this incident (alleged maltreatment),” the younger Tompolo said in a open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He asked: “Is this 84 year old man also a member of the Niger Delta Avengers that they brutalized him to the point of death?”

The old man is dead now. Will his son come out of hiding?
