Tinubu Launches Armed Forest Guard Force to Reclaim Nigeria’s Woodlands from Criminals
President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation and recruitment of a national force of forest guards. The new unit will be trained, armed, and deployed to secure over 1,100 forested areas across the country.
According to a statement released by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Ministry of Environment have been tasked with overseeing the initiative and ensuring its full implementation.
“The president directed that the forest guards are to be well-trained and armed to perform their duties, which is essentially to flush out terrorists and criminal gangs hiding inside the forests for criminal activities,” the statement read.
The initiative, described as a joint security collaboration between the federal and state governments, is expected to create thousands of new jobs for young Nigerians, offering both employment and enhanced national security.
President Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting every inch of Nigerian territory. “We will not surrender our land to terrorists, bandits, or criminal gangs hiding in the shadows of our forests,” he warned.
