Tinubu Appoints Heads of New Regional Development Commissions

President Bola Tinubu has appointed chairpersons and managing directors for the newly created North-Central, South-West, and South-South Development Commissions.

The announcement was officially made during Thursday’s Senate plenary session, as Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president’s letter seeking confirmation of the nominees.

Leading the charge in the North-Central region is Cosmas Akyir from Benue State, appointed as chairman of the commission’s board. Joining him as managing director is Tsenyil Yiltsen from Plateau State.

James Uloko (Benue), Atika Ajanah (Kogi), Bilgis Jumoke Sanni (Kwara), Aishatu Ibrahim (Nasarawa), Muhammad Bashar (Niger)

The board is further strengthened with representatives from across the nation, such as:

Dauda Kigbu (Nasarawa), Solomon Adodo (FCT), Atinuke Owolabi (South-West), Rachael Nse (South-South), Boniface Izziogu (South-East)

For the South-West region, President Tinubu tapped Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi as board chairman and Charles Akinola, former chief of staff to the Osun State governor, as managing director.

In the oil-rich South-South region, former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Chibudom Nwuche has been named chairman. Usoro Akpabio from Akwa Ibom will serve as the commission’s managing director.

Following the president’s formal request, the Senate has referred the nominations to its relevant committees for thorough screening and confirmation. Once confirmed, these commissions are expected to be pivotal in addressing developmental disparities, driving infrastructure, and boosting socio-economic growth across their respective regions.
