Tinubu Holds High-Level Security Talks with Ribadu, Defence Chief Amid Rising Insecurity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a high-level security meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, amid escalating violence in parts of the country.
The emergency meeting comes in the wake of growing insecurity, particularly in Benue and Plateau states, where dozens of lives have been lost in recent weeks. Sources at the State House suggest the president summoned his top security aides to address the deteriorating situation and chart a path forward.
Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Monday night following a 19-day stay in France and the United Kingdom. His prolonged absence sparked public outcry as incidents of killings and abductions surged across the country during that period.
In Plateau state, a fresh wave of violence has left many dead since the start of April, with communities in the central region reeling from repeated attacks. Meanwhile, Benue state witnessed a bloodbath on April 18, when over 50 people were reportedly killed in coordinated assaults on Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas.
Opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have criticised President Tinubu’s extended overseas stay, accusing him of being absent while “Nigeria bleeds.” The statement echoes mounting frustration from citizens demanding swift and decisive action to restore peace and order.
