Tinubu Can Win Igbo Hearts by Freeing Nnamdi Kanu – Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to secure his legacy by ordering the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Ohanaeze made this appeal ahead of Tinubu’s one-day visit to Enugu State, where he is expected to commission projects executed by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, the group claimed that there has been a “gradual attitudinal change of the Federal Government towards the Igbo.”

Ogbonnia added that Ohanaeze believes that “national peace, unity, patriotism, and sustainable economic development of any country are the outcomes, effects, or products of equity and social justice.”

“In other words, there is hardly any society or group that can remain complacent under severe existential threats such as orchestrated marginalization, relative deprivation, and external instigation of insecurity, conflagrations, and crises.”

The Enugu State Government, through its Secretary, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, confirmed Tinubu’s visit on Friday, revealing the President’s plan to inaugurate several infrastructure projects. Ohanaeze, however, expressed optimism that Tinubu’s trip could transcend ceremonial activities.

“It is therefore hoped that with the Enugu visit, President Tinubu will write his name in gold in the hearts of Ndigbo and all well-meaning Nigerians if he orders the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”
