Tinubu Appoints Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as Nigeria’s New Accountant-General
Nigeria’s financial administration, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation. Ogunjimi’s tenure is set to commence on March 7, 2025, coinciding with the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in an official statement by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy. The statement highlighted Ogunjimi’s selection following a rigorous and merit-based recruitment process that prioritized competence, transparency, and excellence in public service.
Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His appointment was confirmed after a thorough three-stage selection process that involved a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews. The selection committee evaluated multiple Directors of Accounts within the Federal Civil Service before finalizing Ogunjimi for the prestigious role.
A seasoned financial expert, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, obtained in 1990. He further advanced his academic credentials with a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, affirming his extensive expertise in financial management.
