We Left to Secure Delta’s Future” – Commissioner of Information

Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Charles Aniagwu, the state’s Commissioner for Information, the decision was not made lightly but stemmed from the growing need to realign Delta’s political vision with broader national goals. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Aniagwu said the PDP had “lost touch with the aspirations of Deltans,” prompting stakeholders to seek a more viable platform.

“This is about the people,” Aniagwu said. “We needed a platform that supports unity, enhances security, and drives real development. Unfortunately, the PDP in Delta no longer reflects those values.”

He added that the decision received overwhelming support from party leaders and stakeholders across the state, emphasising that it was not driven by personal interests but by a shared desire to reposition Delta for greater impact.

“In politics, you must know when the flavour has changed,” Aniagwu explained. “The PDP, as we knew it, no longer resonates with our vision. It’s like palm wine whose taste has soured—we had to change the cup.”

He also hinted that the formal declaration into APC will be made early next week and will involve a cross-section of top officials aligning with the governor’s move.

“We’re not just switching parties,” Aniagwu stated. “We’re choosing a path that allows us to collaborate meaningfully and build a state every Deltan will be proud of.”
