“Teacher” opens fire on colleagues, kills 6, injures 2
At least six people were killed after a teacher opened fire on his colleagues in southern Saudi Arabia on Thursday. Two others were left injured.
The shooting took place at an education department building. The reason for the shooting is still unknown, but police say they are treating it as a criminal act.
According to local media, officers responded to a report that a man “was shooting at a number of employees while they were carrying out their duties”.
Earlier reports suggest the shooter was a teacher.
Although he has not been identified, police said the shooter was not an employee but had some business at the ministry.
According to the BBC, criminal mass shootings are rare in Saudi Arabia but the country has faced recent attacks by the so-called Islamic State.
The assault took place in the remote community of Ad Dair, next to the border with Yemen.
