Taraba: Youth “Corper” electrocuted to death while charging laptop on his laps

A National Youth Service Corps member, identified as Segun Olumide, has died after he was electrocuted in his sleep on Friday.

The Ogun State native was serving as a member of the 2016 Batch ‘B’ stream at the Government Day Secondary School, Wuro Sembe, Jalingo.

According to reports, Segun had been charging his laptop, which he placed on his laps, before sleeping off.

Electric charges ran through his body as the laptop exploded, causing severe burns on his laps.

The Electrical Engineering graduate from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) was reportedly rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, the NYSC Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. She said Segun’s parents who lived in Ibadan had been informed.

“Segun died on his way to the hospital. We were informed that he was charging his laptop, which he placed on his laps, but the system exploded. His shout alerted his colleagues who rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo but he died on the way,” Aderibigbe said.

“His next-of-kin has been informed about the tragedy, it was a sad development,” she added.
