Tanzania: Shock as government moves to appeal ban on child marriage

Tanzanian schoolgirls can now smile after landmark law raises marriage age to 18.
The relief which followed the landmark law that raised marriage age to 18 as turned into shock.

Many Tanzanians are in currently in shock as the government has filed an appeal against a child marriage ban.

An high court in the country had delivered a landmark ruling, early July, which outlawed marriage under the age of 18 for boys and girls.

But the country’s Attorney General (AG) has filed court papers indicating that it will appeal against the ban, BBC reports.

Many Tanzanians are finding it difficult to understand the move as the AG has not given any reason for it.
