Tambuwal: EFCC can’t tarnish my record ,I won’t be blackmailed or intimidated

Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto state, has declared that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) cannot tarnish his record of public service, vowing not to be blackmailed or intimidated.

I told them I was Speaker for four years, governor for eight years, and now a senator. I’m a Commander of the Federal Republic. I deserve respect,” Tambuwal said on Thursday during a reception in Sokoto after his release on bail.

The senator said he honoured the EFCC invitation on August 6 and returned on August 11, only to be told to produce sureties for bail. “I went there on my own volition. I was interrogated and allowed to return home. On the next visit, I was told to bring sureties for bail,” he said.

Despite pleas from his lawyer, Tambuwal said the EFCC chairman declined to grant him bail on personal recognisance. “I was taken to cell A23, where I rested till the next morning,” he added.

Questioning the timing of his arrest, the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) member said, “Why now? Why at this moment?” He described the move as politically motivated, alleging the government was targeting him for standing with the people.

“Once you join APC, all your sins are forgiven. Is that what we should do to be safe?” he asked.

“I will take on anyone trying to smear my name. I will not be blackmailed or intimidated,” Tambuwal said, accusing the APC-led government of misgovernance and vowing to defend democratic principles ahead of 2027.
