Suspected Fulani herdsmen kill pregnant woman and injure others in attack on Nasarawa community
Unidentified gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have attacked Tiv farmers again, killing a pregnant woman, raping and injuring others in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Reports from Northern City News, said a 28-year-old woman, Mrs Dorcas Mbagbidi- Akaahan was shot with scores injured in Tse Shiga, Azara area of Awe LGA, in the early hours of last Monday.
It is reported that the gunmen attacked the community shooting sporadically into the air to scare the residents, but Mrs Dorcas was hit by stray bullets.
Obasanjo Akaahan, a survivor, said the community would have recorded many casualties if the attack had occurred in the daytime.
Akaahan said ”Last week Monday night, some Fulani herders suspected to be from Wurgan-Dogi stormed Tse Shiga aka Gidan Soja came in their numbers, shooting sporadically as we scampered for our dear lives. One person was killed and many others injured”.
It was reported that a woman was also raped by the attackers in Karachi, a Tie community in the Giza area of Keana LGA.
Two women also claimed that they ran into suspected Fulani herdsmen who allegedly assaulted them and it took security operatives in Giza to rescue the women after a tip-off.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, ASP Samalia Usman, said two suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime, adding that the command had commenced an investigation to apprehend the suspects.
