Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Rivers State Allocations, Orders Lawmakers Back to Work
February 28, 2025
The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of a Federal High Court preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from disbursing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.
The verdict, delivered on Thursday, solidifies the ongoing financial blockade against the state government, intensifying the political tension gripping Rivers.
In addition, the apex court ordered the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule to resume legislative activities. The Amaewhule-led group is widely known for its allegiance to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State.
