Support for Governors Unprecedented Under Tinubu — Uba Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State says it will be difficult for any governor in Nigeria to oppose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing the president’s unprecedented support for sub-national governments.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day interactive session on government-citizen engagement organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) at Arewa House in Kaduna, Sani said Tinubu’s relationship with governors has set a new standard in governance collaboration.

“Moreover, no president in Nigeria’s history has supported governors and sub-national governments the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently doing,” Sani stated.

“As a result, it is unlikely that any governor in Nigeria would go against the president.”

The Kaduna governor further noted that the federal government has also adopted new strategies in addressing the region’s challenges by engaging non-state actors.

“For the first time in Nigeria’s history, the government is engaging with non-state actors to discuss progress and assess the situation in northern Nigeria,” he said.

“This unprecedented approach reflects a shift in how national issues are being addressed.”

The event, themed ‘Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity’, was attended by key political figures. President Tinubu was represented by Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara State, and Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation.

Founded in 2009, the SABMF is a non-political and non-religious organisation dedicated to preserving the legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the late premier of Northern Nigeria. The event focused on tracking electoral commitments and enhancing participatory governance between leaders and citizens across the region.
