Super Eagles off to an impressive victory after boost from MTN-NFF partnership
The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in their World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday, September 7 in what has been a week of good news for them.
The victory cements Nigeria’s position at the top of the group after two rounds of matches in their second-round Group C match at Stadium Aderito Sena.
The win means the Super Eagles have secured six points and are in pole position to qualify to the next round if they sustain their impressive performance.
This victory is coming on the heels of the Nigeria Football Federation’s partnership with telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria. The partnership is an annual contract renewable over a period of three years.
Karl Toriola, MTN chief executive officer, said at the event that “Right from the start of our operations in Nigeria in 2001, we have always connected with good causes. It is on having to invest in platforms that unite the nation, and there is no greater platform than football.

“We are passionate about football, and we take it seriously that millions of Nigerians have passion for this great sport, so we as an organisation look beyond challenges to opportunities and promises.”
This same passion was demonstrated by the Super Eagles as they came from a goal down to defeat their opponents courtesy of a goal from Victor Osimhen in the 29th minute and an own goal in the 76th minute.
