SUICIDE: Top Zimbabwean civil servant facing corruption charges jumps to death

A top Zimbabwean civil servant, Charles Tawonerera Kuwaza, reportedly jumped to his death early Tuesday morning.
Kuwaza reportedly leapt to his death from the 9th floor of Club Chambers building in Harare.
Kuwaza, a former chairperson of State Procurement Board (SPB), was said to be facing charges of corruption.
He was facing five counts of corruption involving over $1million and ZW$2,5 billion.
Kuwaza had reportedly been granted a $2,000 bail on March 24.
Reports say he was collecting documents to help with his defence in court before the incident.
He reportedly went into his office around 11am, while his wife, who had accompanied him, remained in the car.
Kuwaza’s lifeless body was reportedly found about 40minutes later, on the tarmac where he landed.
A source close to Kuwaza’s family reportedly said the deceased was traumatised by his arrest.
“When Kuwaza was arrested he got stressed while in police custody and fell sick. He was then put on life support and had to be remanded on his hospital bed,” the source told Harare Bureau.
