READ: Nigerians protest without 2face Idibia

Shogbamu wrote…

In light of the recent turn in events- the cancellation of the One Voice Nigeria protest; I want to use this medium to appreciate Nigerians for our love and dedication towards a better nation. However, I will also like to clarify a few things.

After the publication of my open letter to Mr Idibia, I have been attacked by various people who have tagged me as a ‘cynic’, ‘coward’ and other downgrading names for speaking my mind and the minds of a whole lot of Nigerians.

I wish to state the fact that I did not attack the action; however, I questioned the intentions and motive behind the march.

While most of my critics frowned at the fact I dragged Mr Idibia’s marriage and the timing of the protest, I have only used these to buttress my points which are:

1. The fact that someone who does his marriage abroad does not in any way support the ‘Made in Nigeria’ movement, and as a true ambassador / agent of change, one must patronize home made goods and services to grow the Naira and improve our economy.

2. the fact that our beloved Tuface has chosen such a sensitive time in an economic calender to march, when he was opportune to communicate his disapproval to millions of people and government officials at the Lagos Countdown Festival in December, such time and place would have been the perfect setting for the movement. Ironically, Mr Idibia couldn’t because he was being paid by the same officials who he wishes to condemn now.

My open letter was not a call for people to boycott the march, but a wakeup call for Nigerians to participate in the march with a pure heart and conscience, and above all stand with Nigeria rather than an individual; hence the rebuke of the hashtag #istandwithtuface , because in my opinion, this cause should be bigger than any Nigerian or person.

Moreso, I wish to acknowledge the input of Mr. Idibia. It takes a man of strength and vision to be able to put the needs of others before him. Indeed Mr Idibia has stated the reason for the cancellation to be a conflict of interest- an issue I addressed in my open letter. While people expect me to bask in the euphoria of my triumph, I sincerely respect the conviction of Mr Idibia on this delicate issue. I remain committed to the betterment of our economy and country and have no interest in playing a win or lose game with anybody. I congratulate Nigerians for its participation on this matter, every comment and criticism has gone a long way in planning our future, whether you were for or against the march. I urge Nigerians to remain political conscious, as this remains the key to our emancipation from our obnoxious leaders and policies.

Finally, I also employ our youths and the larger economy to be more entrepreneurial oriented, to be involved in growing our own economy by producing and patronizing home made products. In the same vein, I urge the government and all stakeholders to be compassionate to our plight; support entrepreneurs, and pass favorable policies into law so as to prevent the current hardship and solve other challenges facing young people and the nation at large. Thank you!
