Many South Africans are not happy about the sacking of the country’s Finance Minister.

That’s why #ZumaMustFall is trending on Twitter.

Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene was sacked, yesterday, by President Jacob Zuma who said he was moving the respected minister to another “strategic position”.

“I have decided to remove Mr Nhlanhla Nene as Minister of Finance, ahead of his deployment to another strategic position,” the president said in a statement.

Zuma announced relatively unknown David Van Rooyen as Nene’s replacement.

And majority of the country, it seems, do not agree with the president’s decision. Even the country’s currency, the rand, has fallen close to a record low.

Nene, reports say, has been at the forefront of cutting wasteful government spending and trying to reduce South Africa’s debt. Many believe he may have stepped on the toes of the president’s friends.
