Six arrested in Lagos for tearing campaign posters and replacing them with Sowore’s

Six supporters of the African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, have been arrested by the police for allegedly destroying different campaigns posters in Lagos.

Lagos police spokesperson Chike Oti named the suspects as Kool-kloud Henry, Banwo Olagokun, Damilola Omidiji, Olagokun Odunayo, Michael Kate, Ugaju Joseph.

Oti added that the suspects were caught with items such as “a poster bearing the picture of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Mr Sowore, brush, buckets containing gums and torn posters of other political parties.”

He said they were caught around 2:30 am on Sunday in Ikeja while ripping off other candidates’ campaign posters and replacing them with Sowore’s.

The act, police says, was “contrary to the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency law that forbids advertisers from pasting posters at no other hour than the daytime.”

Oti said all political parties had earlier been warned to desist from defacing or destroying opponents’ campaign posters.

The suspects will appear before the court on Monday (today) for “malicious damage and conduct”.
