Sikiru Olatunbosun: World will end in 2017 if MFM star’s goal misses Puskas Award!

The best goal you’ll see in 2017 came barely two months into the year. Have you seen it?

Supersport called it a goal from the heaven. Let’s call that a conservative accolade.

The CNN guys who listed it as “one of its goals of the week” should be fired as they DON’T know anything about football.

Givemesport said it is in the class of the goals scored by Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and Manchester United’s Andy Carroll this season. We disagree!

Folks at the Mirror who are rooting for it to win this year’s Puskas Award – FIFA’s way of saying “this is the best goal scored all over the world this year” – are the “correct” guys.

The wonder-goal came, last weekend, from Mountain of Fire striker Sikiru Olatunbosun against Rangers International. It completed a team effort dominated by energetic, coordinated, flicks-loaded play that would make Maradonna, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (both of them), Messi, and Jay Jay Okocha jealous.

“For anyone with doubts about the quality of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the last few rounds of matches would have gone a long way towards laying them to rest,” ESPN wrote after the delightful strike.

“The most recent fixtures in particular served up some of the best fare that Nigerian football has to offer, so much so that one goal even went viral.”

Olatubosun’s goal, and the run up to it, was so powerful it broke the internet.

The News Angecy of Nigeria (NAN) said it well:

The whole team had put together a well-worked move, with Stephen Odey passing the ball to Sikiru, who flicked it over the head of a Rangers defender and then banged it from outside the box, with his left foot, into the Rangers net. The Rangers keeper was of course caught napping.

Thierry Henry of Arsenal had scored from the same position against Manchester United in 2000, but his effort just did not match Olatunbosun’s goal.
