Shooting reported in Onipanu, one person feared killed

Police-vehicle-3There was repeated shooting in the Onipanu area of Lagos state earlier today, NewsroomNG has gathered.

 

A group of armed men reportedly stormed the Mushin side of Onipanu bearing guns at around 2:00pm, Wednesday afternoon.

Eyewitness accounts say they shot an unidentified man to death.

An eyewitness said they also set a building ablaze but the prompt response of the Fire Service quickly curtailed the fire.

“The assailants rode on Okada through Ogunmokun Street towards Babalosha Market to escape. Not one person challenged them. Despite the open display of arms, people just walked past them as in normal life,” he said.

The Police PRO, Zone 2, Lagos, CSP Adebowale Lawal told NewsroomNG that he received calls from the area which he directed to the control room for action.

He said the control room reported back to him that the DPO of the nearest police station had responded and is now in control of the situation.

He however could not confirm whether or not someone was killed in the incident

“As I’m speaking to you now, I’ve not gotten any information about loss of life,” he said.

He maintained that the situation is under control.

“We are going to deploy more men there to monitor the situation,” he added..
