Sharia Court dissolves union after husband allegedly abandoned wife and nine children for a year
On Monday, a Kaduna state Sharia Court, sitting in Magajin Gari, dissolved the marriage between Nuhu Usman and Rashida Aminu, over the former’s inability to take care of his family.
Mallam Musa Saad, the judge who presided over the case, ended the union after listening to both parties and their guardians.
The court ordered Usman, to give N10, 000 monthly allowance and a sack of corn monthly to Rashida, his ex -wife.
He said: “Based on the proof presented to the court and the respondent not denying the allegations against him, I hereby dissolve the union between Nuhu Usman and Rashida Aminu.”
On September 5, Rashida told the court that her husband abandoned her and their nine children for over than a year. She said that her parents had been taking care of her and the children.
She said “I want this honourable court to dissolve our marriage because of his irresponsible behaviour”.
Usman said he was a driver that travelled inter-states to make ends meet, adding that he sends money at intervals. ”I sent N30,000 to her within the period she filed the case,’’.
Usman begged the court not to dissolve the marriage that he was still in love with his wife and that he should be given one more chance
Prior to the verdict, the court had earlier requested the presence of the guardians of both parties, but only Rashida’s guardian, Magaji Audu showed up.
Audu, who said that he was the one who gave out Rashida out for marriage, explained that Usman had been irresponsible since after the marriage.
He said, “Rashida’s father had given him a car to drive so that he could provide food for his family, but he lost the car”.
After that, he promised to be on good behaviour and even signed an agreement to it but was still behaving irresponsibly.
He tendered the written agreement which was given to Usman to the court as evidence.
