Senior Kano lawyer, Yakubu Na’ Allah sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for N50m fraud

The long arm of the law has caught up with a Kano lawyer, Yakubu Mohammed Na’ Allah as he has been sentenced to four years imprisonment without an option of fine for offences of fraud.

Na’ Allah, a senior Kano lawyer, was found guilty of duping two of his clients of a sum N50million, after he represented them in a case they filed against Ministry of Solid Minerals, a statement by EFCC reveals.

EFCC says it received a petition which claimed the lawyer, after winning a sum of ninety million naira (N90,000,000) in the case, gave his client only thirty million naira (N30,000,000) and converted the rest of the money to his personal use.

Part of Na’Allah’s subsequent acquisitions from the money is a palatial mansion in Sharada area of Kano.

Upon arraignment in January 2013, Na’ Allah pleaded not guilty to the charges. The commencement of his trial in June 2013 however saw the prosecution call seven witnesses and tender fifteen exhibits.

A Federal High Court judge in Kano, Justice Fatu Riman who presided over the case, ruled that the prosecution counsel, M.S Abubakar proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and subsequently convicted Na’ Allah.

He sentenced Na’ Allah to two years imprisonment on each of the two count charge and also ordered the forfeiture of N50million worth of property to the Federal Government by the convict. The sentences are to run concurrently.
