Segun Aina takes over as JAMB registrar at 40
Segun Aina, a professor of computer engineering, has officially taken over as the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He assumed office on Friday at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, succeeding Ishaq Oloyede, whose second and final five-year term ended on July 31, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Aina as the substantive registrar on May 21, when he was 39 years old, to replace Oloyede. He is now the youngest person to hold the position.
Announcing the appointment, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, described Aina as “a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform”.
“At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and will now make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar,” Onanuga added.
‘WE’LL PROTECT JAMB’S INTEGRITY’
In his inaugural address, Aina pledged to preserve the credibility of the examination body, saying the board would invest more in modern technology to curb examination malpractice.
He cautioned those involved in examination malpractice to reconsider their actions, saying “their business is in a wrong institution”.
Aina also said JAMB would sustain its partnership with security agencies to further protect the integrity of its examinations.
