Saudi Arabia to nail man to cross for "illegally" protesting against government
Ali Mohammed al-Nimr was arrested at the age of 17 for “illegally” protesting against Saudi Arabia authorities.
Al-Nimr also reportedly confessed to illegal possession of firearms.
A human rights group said Saudi authorities used torture to extract the alleged confession from teenage Al-Nimr two years ago.
Saudi Arabia has not offered any evidence related to the gun possession charge, Mic News reports.
Now 21, Al-Nimr will be executed by death on a cross, and his case has attracted little or no show of concerns in Saudi Arabia.
However, the international community is appalled at the ruling.
Amnesty International said the last time a public execution by crucifixion was carried out in the country was in 2013.
Activists say Al-Nimr was targeted because a family member is a critic of the government.
They say the teenager’s imprisonment constitutes a wrongful conviction, and note that he was not allowed to seek the advice of a lawyer while he was in custody.
