SARS officials invade AAUA hostel, harass students having a party
Some men of the Ondo State Police Command, attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Monday allegedly invaded a hostel of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.
The policemen were alleged to have beaten up some students of the institution they met in the hostel.
It was gathered that the incident happened around 4am while the students, who were living in the hostel, were ending a party.
Many of the students reportedly suffered injuries following the alleged brutality by the operatives.
The SARS operatives were said to have claimed to be searching for some cult members in the hostel, but the students refused to open the door, with fears that they were armed robbers. They, however, proceeded to break down doors, burglar-proof bars and ceilings to gain entry.
“When they entered the hostel, they started beating everybody. Many students suffered injuries. However, some students who gave them bribes, were released, while those who couldn’t were whisked away by the officers,” a student said.
Police spokesperson, Femi Joseph, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Gbenga Adeyanju, had ordered an investigation into the matter and any official found guilty of the allegation would be dealt with.
