Saraki “actively considering running against Buhari” in 2019

Senator Bukola Saraki has said he is considering running against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election.

During an interview at his residence in Abuja on Tuesday, Saraki told Bloomberg, said, ”I am consulting and actively considering it, I believe I can make the change”.

Saraki recently defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and would need to win the party’s ticket during primary elections in October.

The former Kwara State governor who emerged Senate President against the presidential wishes in 2015, said ”investors and citizens have lost confidence in the president”.

He had also said the blockade of the National Assembly by DSS operatives on August seven was a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

Buhari’s election victory in 2015, which put an end to 16 years PDP rule, came after he pledged to fix the economy, improve security and fight corruption.

Saraki says the country needs to be governed by a genuinely pro-business administration that will be able to tackle recurrent security issues.

However, he would have to contend with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who also moved back to the PDP after a stint with APC and has also made his desire to be president known.
