Salah Farah: Muslim dies protecting Christians, leaves 9-month pregnant wife behind
No doubt, Salah Farah’s heavily pregnant wife will weep for long. But her sorrows may also be “tainted” by the realisation of her husband’s heroism.
Hopefully Dunia Mohamed will be emotionally strong enough to retell that heroic story to the baby she’ll soon bear for a man who is no more.
It is the story of how Farah overlooked obvious religious differences to stand in defence of Christians against Al-Shabaab terrorists. And he did so in the face of death.
The terrorists waylaid and “arrested” a filled 62-seater bus in Kenya. They, poised to kill all Christians present, told Muslims to step aside. The ambush happened last Christmas Eve.
Farah was the one who urged his Muslim brothers to stick with their Christian counterparts. He also has a message for the terrorists.
“We asked them to kill all of us or leave us alone,” he said after the attack.
“As we argued, they shot me,” he said.
It seemed Farah would be okay. He even spoke with several journalists weeks after the attack. They said he seemed in good spirits.

But Farah, on Monday, succumbed to his wounds leaving behind a heavily pregnant wife and four children.
Three people were injured in the attack. Farah’s death raised the death toll to three.
He was given a befitting burial. His body was flown on a helicopter to his home where he was buried as tears rolled and prayers flowed.
His brother expressed hopes Farah’s death would bring religious tolerance and harmony among Kenyans.
Farah’s wife would hope her husband would stick around to name the coming baby. So would their other four children.
Where’s daddy?
